This past week has been a great experience for Ricky. He
attended the annual Carroll County Sheriff’s Camp. This is a camp that our
Sheriff’s department, as well as, many businesses in the community supports.
The camp is run by the officers and volunteers. The children are there from 8
am – 4pm Monday – Thursday and then they spend the night on Thursday night. Thursday
evening they had a cook-out for all the children, families, and volunteers.
Everything at this camp is free of charge. Officer Greg Holcombe is one of the
officers that heads up this wonderful camp. Ricky has become very fond of Mr.
Greg and can’t wait for the next summer to roll around so he can join the camp
again. After the cook-out it was time for the awards ceremony. Ricky won the
award for most improved. Ricky has attended the camp 3 times. Mr. Greg told
everyone that Ricky did everything he was supposed to do during the week and no
one had to redirect him or get on to him for nothing. He was very proud of
Ricky just as we are. Ricky was all smiles when he received his award. Mr. Greg
told everyone that the camp is sponsored by our Sheriff, Terry Langley and
money that is seized from drug busts. I am so glad that money from horrible
acts can in turn help camps like this exist. It is great that kids can be a
part of this camp and understand what law enforcement does and they may even
one day want to be in law enforcement. This camp I know has made a difference
in Ricky’s life and I’m sure it has for many others. Thanks, Carroll County
Sheriff’s Office for putting on such a wonderful camp and caring for our
children. You are making a difference in their future. Way to go Ricky for
showing everyone you are the great kid your family knows you are. We are so
proud of you!!!
