Give Thanks

Yesterday at church our Sunday School lesson was on remembering all the “small” things we take for granted that we should be very thankful that we have. Our assignment was to take a piece of paper and write down everything we could think of that we are thankful for but we had to be specific. So when we said we are thankful for church we had to be specific in what we are thankful and naming specific people as well. Lots of things came to light that I had never thought of being thankful for. This revelation sent me on a journey to find an easy way for our family to remember the things that we are thankful for. I got the boys involved. First we found some branches in the yard. Then Ricky and I traced the bottom of a cup onto scrapbook paper and made about 60 or 70 circles. Then we cut them out. At last, Ricky, Caiden, and I sat down and named as many things as we could that we are thankful for. We had some traditional ones such as freedom, God, Church, teachers, and family. Then some not so traditional ones such as Disney World, beef jerky, and cartoons. We even are thankful for our pet bunny Po. This project did take a while to cut everything out and then to tie each circle to a branch with fishing line but it was worthwhile because it made us really think about what we have, who we are thankful for, and what life would be like if we didn’t have these things or these people in our lives. Below is a picture of our “Thankful Tree”. It’s not perfect but it is filled with great reminders that we are blessed and have many wonderful things to be thankful for.
