Day 17 of 365 Days of Thanks

January 17th

Today I am thankful for "Mommy Time". This morning when Rick left for work I stayed in bed and pulled up Pinterest. I got to spend some quite time by myself and just search for things to do on Pinterest. It was good to have some time to relax and just be lazy. Then this afternoon my neighbor and friend Annie came over nad gave me a makeover. I am not good at makeup and girly stuff but Annie is a good teacher and she has agreed to help me. I am thankful that I can have these times. These times are few and far between but they help me to better me for myself and my family.

Day 16 of 365 Days of Thanks

January 16th

Today I am thankful for our home. We have been blessed. We have a beautiful home that we have lived in almost 10 years. Ricky was 4 when we moved here so he pretty much only knows this house. Caiden has only known this house. Rick and I have made this house our home. We have remodeled almost every room in the house in some capacity except for the closets. Now we are redoing the boys rooms. Caiden is getting his own room. Ricky and I started painting it today. We accomplished a lot. I am so thankful that we have our own home. I never had this growing up. We moved so many times I lost count. Our home is not big or something wonderful but it is ours and we make it our own. I will post pictures of the before and after of the boys rooms. Hopefully once we get it finished we can keep it clean but that's another story... lol

Day 15 of 365 Days of Thanks

January 15th

Today I am thankful for patience. Yesterday with Caiden was a roller coaster ride. He throws a curve ball at me at least once a week. I told Rick as soon as I think we are doing real good Caiden will snatch the wheels out from under us and down we go speeding at 120 miles an hour with no breaks. What can I say....I prayed for patience and God is giving me lots of tests. I guess it is true you have to be careful what you pray for. My patience does run thin. Sometimes Caiden is a bundle of energy bouncing off the walls and then at others he is quiet and patient and just wants to be loved on. I told you its a roller coaster. I am thankful that God is given me tests with him because it is making us both stronger. I am learning more and more on how to be patient with him and help him through his trouble times and he is learning that he can always count on me. I am also teaching him that he can count on God. No matter what we go through God is still there and his love is still the same. I am thankful for all the things he has done for us but today I am especially thankful for the patience he gave me to help Caiden when he needed me the most.

Day 14 of 365 Days of Thanks

January 14th

Today I am thankful for being a mom. Today I saw my son confused, frustrated, and hurt and I was able to help him. Caiden is our youngest and he has been my test from God. He and Ricky are night and day. Ricky was our quiet one. Always did what we told him (until now---teenagers). Caiden is our temper tantrum, rambunctious, daredevil. We always knew he was different. He had trouble starting in daycare and he still struggles today. Back in September Caiden was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome and then in October he was diagnosed with ADHD. Asperger's Syndrome is a high functioning autism. Caiden looks just like any other child; however, he struggles in many areas of life. He has to have extra attention to help him understand concepts. He is very literal in his thinking and has trouble understanding what concepts unless they are literal. To Caiden everything is black or white/ round or square/ slow or fast----to him there is no middle area. He has struggled alot in school with behavior mostly because he gets frustrated and then acts out. This week he had a bad note Mon, Tues, and Wed. So tonight after church we talked about what happened and he was grounded until Sunday from his video games, ipad, and phone. When he heard this he sat quiet for a minute and began to cry. When I asked why he was crying he said "It's not fair to my brother." I said what is not fair. He said "I get grounded for 3 days but Ricky got grounded for 7." Poor child he was upset not because he was in trouble but because he and his brother did not receive the same punishment. (see i told you in Caiden's mind there is no grey area). We stayed in the kitchen talking for over 30 minutes---mostly me talking and Caiden crying. I had to explain that Ricky is older and should know better and that the punishment has to fit the crime---so for bigger crimes the punishment will be longer. Caiden then feels that he is stupid and not smart in school. I explained that he is not stupid, he just thinks differently than others. I told him God made him special and chose our family to send him to us. I told him that God doesn't make mistakes and he knew exactly what he was doing when he created Caiden. More crying ensued and I even began to cry. I was at a lost for what to do so I said "Do you want to pray with me." Caiden said yes and then he wanted to pray in the morning as well. I hugged him tight and rubbed his head as tears still streamed down his face and I prayed over my little boy. I prayed that God would enter his heart, mind, and soul and help him see that he was not mistake and that everything God made him for was good. I prayed that God would help him through the day to make good choices. A since of calm came over him and he was ok. Thursday morning we prayed before the bus arrived and he had a good day on Thursday and Friday. This was a good time for me. I was able to see my child hurting and step in to help him. I could have taken a different route but I knew he needed me. I am now in the process of trying to get him extra help in school. People look at Caiden and think he is a problem child or hyper. They don't understand the world is his playground and he wants to explore every single inch and crevice and it drives him insane if he can't. They don't see a child that is incredibly smart and has a photographic memory---they see a child that is disruptive and combative. My son has Asperger's and I am going to fight to give him the future that he deserves and that God had planned for him all along because that's what mom's do.

Day 13 of 365 Days of Thanks

Today I am thankful for my wonderful supportive family I have. Whenever I have a bad day I have several people I can call on. This morning was a rough morning with Ricky. He is almost 14 and thinks everything should go his way and forget about the rest. I was so stressed this morning. My family stepped in and made me feel better. Thanks Rick for always listening while I talk and always knowing what to say to make me feel better. Thanks KeyKey for left in me vent and you reminding me that girls are no ease to raise than boys and that I am not alone in this fight. Thanks dad for telling me that we are doing a good job raising Ricky and the way to know that is to go through these rough patches. Thanks everyone for always helping me turn my vision from negative to positive. I needed you all today and yall were there for me and I thank yall for your support. I am fortunate to have such a wonderful group of people that I get to call family.

Day 12 of 365 Days of Thanks

January 12th

Today was my first meeting for Circle of West Georgia. I was asked to be a board member for this organization. I was so surprised and honored to be asked to do this. I gladly accepts the position. This organizations mission is to permanently move people out of poverty. I wish this program existed when I was growing up. There are so many people who are in poverty and want to get out but dont know how to do it. This program is the answer. It takes people already established in the community and uses their talents to mentor and guide people out of poverty. It is building circles of relationships that create a supportive learning environment for people in poverty. This program gives the help, guidance, and support people need to get out of poverty. I am so excited to be a part of this organization. I love to give back and this will help me do that in ways I haven't imagined before. For more information about Circles of West Georgia go to www.circlesofwestgeorgia.com

I am officially a board member now.

Day 11 of 365 Days of Thanks

January 11th

Today I am thankful for my mother-in-law. Today is her birthday. She is a sweet person. She accepted in her family when I was 14 and we have grown so close. She has been there for me when my mom was not. She has given me so many gifts but the greatest would be she gave me a wonderful man for my husband. She raised him to respect women and to love his children unconditionally. She has taught him and continues to teach him how to become a better man and father. She has helped our family become stronger because of her guidance and support. I could not ask for a better mother-in-law or a better grandmother for my boys. Lois thank you for being there for me, accepting me, and supporting me. Thank you for raising such a wonderful man. I am so thankful to have you in my life. I hope you had a wonderful birthday.

Day 10 of 365 Days of Thanks

January 10

Today I am thankful for my husband. My husband Ricky Vaughn Jr. Is my soul mate. He makes me happy in every way possible. He puts me and the boys first. He keeps us safe. He shares my hopes and dreams. He supports me in everything I do. We are a perfect match. He makes me better and I make him better. He loves me along with my faults and I the same for him. I am thankful to have a husband that will work everyday to provide for his family and come home and help with house work. I am thankful to have a husband that will listen to my fears and my worries and let me cry on his shoulder and he assure everything will be alright. I am thankful to have a husband that sees the imperfections I see as beauty only God can create. I am thankful and proud to be Mrs. Ricky Vaughn Jr. Rick thanks for loving me and choosing to be my best friend and soul mate forever.

Day 9 of 365 Days of Thanks

January 9th

Today I am thankful for Friday. I thankful I have a job that is Monday - Friday. I really like my job but I love to be home and doing things with the family. This week was a long week. It was so cold and that made work days go by so slow. I am thankful for Fridays.

Day 8 of 365 Days of Thanks

January 8th
Today I am thankful for my coworker and friend Jackie. She is a sweet and loving person. We struck up our friendship and it has grown more each year. I am thankful to have a friend like her. We go to lunch together and can talk about anything. She reminds me alot of my grandmother who played the role of my mom until the Lord called her home. Thanks for being a great friend.

Jackie I am thankful for a friend like you. Happy Birthday.

Day 7of 365 Days of Thanks

January 7th

Today I am thankful for the seat warmers in my car. It wa ls really cold and I am glad that when I get in I can turn the seat warmer on and it will warm me up fast. Sometimes its the small things we take for granted. We should always give thanks to the Lord for everything he has done and continues to do for us.

Day 6 of 365 Days of Thanks

January 6th

Today I am thankful that school is back in. I can't tell you how many phone calls I received while the boys were home for the holiday break. I have to work but they think they can call me and I can fix the issue over the phone. I am glad they are back in school and they get a break from each other. They can't be in the same room for 2 minutes without fussing. It gets crazy in our house. What can I say we have 2 drama kings in our home...lol. Anyway I am so happy and thankful that school is back and the boys can get back to their routine and leave me alone so I can work.

Day 5 of 365 Days of Thanks

January 5th

Today I am thankful for my job. I am glad that I have a job to provide for my family. In March I will have been at this company for 10 years. I am proud to work here. This job is not easy. I have my stressful moments but it is a family here. We all care for each other and the guys I work with are one of a kind. They put family first and want everyone to do the same. It makes my job easier when I know that I can be an employee and still be a great mom and wife and not have to choose which one to be better at. I am fortunate to have such a great job and I give thanks to God for providing the right path for me to get this job. This is just another example of how God always provides what we need.

Day 4 of 365 Days of Thanks

January 4th

Today I am thankful for my patience. Sometimes I lack patience but my boys are helping me with that even though I haven't asked for the help. lol.....They try my patience so much. But what can I say they are boys and I am stuck in a house full of testosterone. Rick has been working overtime so its just been me and the boys so maybe that played a part into my patience running thin. Rick knows when I call and say I need you to bring home a Pepsi and some chocolate that the boys have done soemthing. We had 2 extra boys in the mix this weekend as well. Rickys friend Don Don was there and our nephew TaTa. Now I know girls argue but I tell you these boys can't get along for 2 minutes without an argument. And 9 times out of 10 it is about a video game. Oh if only adult problems were that simple. Anyway my patience was tested and I have to say I think I did pretty good. No one got a spanking but they were warned and Ricky ultimately was grounded. So Mom 1 and boys 0 so far.

Day 3 of 365 Days of Thanks

Ok I have not fell off the band wagon I just haven't had time to post anything. I will catch you all up later as to why I haven't had any extra time. It's super exciting.....

January 3rd

Today I am thankful for all the blessings our Lord Jesus Christ has given our family. We are so blessed. I am not referring only to material things I am referring to everything in general. The Lord has belssed me with everything I hoped for as a child. I have a home, food, clothes, a car, a job, income, knowledge, a good support system, loving family, and so on. I am belssed way more than alot of people are and I was reminded of this today. Our Sunday School class completed an outreach the Sunday before Christmas and we supplied food and giftcards to homeless families staying in a hotel not far from our church. We were able to provide hope for these families that otherwise may not have had hope. Well in this endeavor we met a young couple who is staying in the hotel the woman is 8 months pregnant, lost her job recently and the husband has been unable to find a job. They don't have any family around to help. They were very thankful for the food. This family called us and were about to be evicted today (Jan 3rd) because they did not have money to pay for the room. God blessed us so that we may bless them. I can't imagine being pregnant and having to bring your child home to a hotel room. I hope that we can continue to build a relationship with this family and bless them like so many others did for us. Our hope is that we can continue to bless others and in turn they will pass belssings on to others when they can. Thank you God for always watching over us and providing for us and helping and showing us how to provide for others.
